Importance of Being a “Day”

They say that today is Women’s Day. But why just today? Is the day not mine when I get up every morning and do my own thing? Or when you go to sleep at night having done what you did.

They like designating days for all the important things. Like Love. Like Friendship. Like Mothers. Fathers. Children. Ice-creams. And for women.

Why is it so important to do this? It is like some grand gesture. A magnanimous acknowledgement. Who decided that this needs to be done? This favour to all those who have a day for them.

You get independence on a particular day. You get married on a date. You are born on a fixed date. Do you also love on a fixed day? Do you also feel like a woman, a friend, a father on one day? And do you love, respect, care for these only on one day?

I do not ask because I feel angst. I ask because I simply wonder.

But I still have to wish: Happy Women’s Day!
