A Nameless Prayer (for a new year)

Hope for a true dawn

Of a world, brave and new
Where children do not
Shrink and scream,
Cowering behind school desks,
As madness stalks
Corridors of Learning, hallowed.
I dream.

Of the bright evenings
And nights smiling,
When She can walk,
Laugh and dream,
Of happy tomorrows,
Whether alone, or not.
I dream.

Of verdant freshness,
Fickle, coquettish seas.
Cool shade of scorching summer
And the radiance of the winter morns.
Rains singing songs, familiar and new;
Storms playing drama queen.
Shooting stars and wishes naive.
I dream.

Dream and hope and wish,
And pray.
Amen.
